Biofilters remove odours and biodegradable pollutants from exhaust air. The air flows through a moist, organic
filter material – such as root wood or wood chips – that is colonised by microorganisms. They break down the odorous
substances and pollutants, converting organic compounds mainly into carbon dioxide and water. Biofilters are used
wherever odour-intensive exhaust air is produced, for example at sewage treatment plants, in the food industry, in
agriculture and at biogas plants.
TS biofilter plants are built as single-stage or multi-stage systems as required.
Trickle-bed reactors, chemical scrubbers or
activated carbon filters can be installed upstream or downstream of the
biological purification stage. Acid and alkaline scrubbers are also part of our scope of supply and can be
integrated into the biofilters where required.
The essential process stages of a biofilter plant are:
Air conveyance
Dust separation
Heating or cooling
Humidification or scrubbing stages
Biological purification
Our biofilter plants meet the quality requirements of VDI guideline 3477.
